Abstract: CGC hosts The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), one of the world's largest cancer genomics data collections, and provides computational resources and optimized, portable bioinformatics tools to analyze it— at any scale, immediately, collaboratively, and reproducibly. Using Docker and the Common Workflow Language, it is also possible to port any command line tool to the CGC — where researchers have access to free computational credits and more than a petabyte of genomic data to analyze. The CGC project was born out of the recognition that conducting biological research is increasingly computationally-intensive. New approaches are required to support effective data discovery, storage, and computation on large, publicly-funded projects such as TCGA. The CGC is community-focused resource and feedback from researchers will shape its development and ultimately enable us to create the resource that is best suited to needs of the community.
